The “new normal” we have come to accept will not sustain us or the planet as we know and love it. We must wake up and do everything we can to leave a better world for our children and grandchildren and all the natural world.

PS eurasian coots are very common and they are found almost everywhere in european cities, a corn crake is not

Comment on Where have the Nighthawks gone? by Warren Zehrung http://occasionalnaturalist.com/2009/08/where-have-the-nighthawks-gone/comment-page-1/#comment-807 Fri, 07 Jun 2013 03:16:32 +0000 http://occasionalnaturalist.com/?p=123#comment-807 I have not seen a nighthawk in Louisiana or Arkansas for a few years. We grew up calling them bullbats. We cheered at the sound of their buzz as they pulled up out of their high speed dives. They caught bugs by spotting then against a lighter sky above them. Miss them – hope they come back!

Probably 6-10 birds. I ran in to the house to grab my camera and was finally able to add this bird to my photo life list.

here in the Mid Ohio Valley but none yet this year. Nice photo. It is hard to zoom in and focus at the same time.

I’ve been continuing to watch the skies every day since.
